ARs ReflecTIonis is a modular, private study online course. The target is to enable students to critically reflect on the ethical challenges of their own field of study and their future professional careers. The course allows for the precise combination of discipline-specific components addressing concrete questions of accountability with general components covering the fundamentals of ethics and normative reasoning. Each component includes a video-recorded micro-lecture, which can be viewed via ILIAS, as well as additional materials for private study. Optional Q&A sessions and workshops are offered to clarify questions and deepen discussions through interaction with the instructors.

Procedure:

  1. Register for the course
  2. Complete the online seminar on ILIAS! No participation restrictions; registration is open at any time.
  3. To complete the course, you must also register for one of the three final exam dates (please note the registration periods!)

Instructors:

Simon Derpmann and Marcel Krüger are academic employees at the KIT Academy for Responsible Research, Teaching, and Innovation (ARRTI). Within ARRTI’s “Teaching” pillar, they are responsible for developing and offering innovative courses on issues of ethics and responsibility. Together, they support students in further developing their capacity for ethical judgment and reflection. As a team, they administer the online course and also conduct the final exam.

The videos also feature former ARRTI staff members Prof. Dr. habil. Michael Kühler and Dr. Elisabeth Does. During their time at ARRTI from 2020 to 2024 and 2025, respectively, they jointly designed and implemented the online course ARS REFLECTIONIS.
